A liver friendly lifestyle guide
The idea for this book came about at the end of a wine tour. A client, groaning from a week of fabulous food and wine, asked me ‘how do you do this all the time keep in shape?
The book started from sharing a few survival tricks and techniques: the lessons I have learnt from the French, from my friends, therapists and other yogis to try and maintain a healthy body in what may initially appear an unhealthy industry.
Why the Drinking Woman? Well, I’m a woman and I drink! I can only talk from my point of view and experience. The book shares the results of my research into how to keep my liver happy and healthy while maintaining my love of wine. It’s not about how to drink more but how to drink better. It draws on advice from various health, fitness and beauty specialists, information gleaned from medical reviews and books. Ideas that I have test driven and share to help fellow wine lovers, who are not prepared to completely give up their wine, but not prepared to sacrifice their health either.
Men are welcome to read along, but women do have an unfair disadvantage when it comes to drinking.
The book looks at what moderation really means, and lifestyle habits that can help your body process alcohol more efficiently and protect you from any harmful effects. I find it hard to stick to good intentions, so I share some of the tricks I have picked up which have helped me keep to my resolutions.
It’s a light-hearted but practical look at how to maintain a healthy lifestyle without giving up wonderful wine and fine food, full of practical tips and ideas.
The use of the word diet in the title of the book may be misleading: this is not a weight loss diet, but by following some of the ideas, you’ll be heading towards a healthier lifestyle, weight loss should be a happy by-product if you are carrying a few extra pounds.
Like a fine wine, it’s all about balance.
The strap line on my web site is: Knowledge increases pleasure; knowledge is also power, power to make the right decisions. Deep down you know if your drinking habit is an issue, if it’s affecting your waistline, your health, your performance, and your skin.
This is not a book that will give you an excuse to drink to excess and I’m not looking to demonise drink either, after all wine is how I make a living. Hopefully The Drinking Woman’s Diet, will allow me to share some helpful ideas on how to enjoy wine without putting your figure, your face, your health or your sanity at too much risk. Let’s work out how to enjoy a drink and still be on top of our game.
